School Programs
The Canal Kids Special
This includes a tour of the History Center of Niagara County museum complex, a hands-on activity, and a tour of the new Erie Canal Discovery Center. Lunch and Gift Shop facilities available. Time: 3 hours. Admission fees are $5 per student; no charge for teachers; $3 for all other accompanying adults.
Museum Explorers
This includes a tour of the Niagara County Historical Society museum complex and a hands-on activity. Lunch and Gift Shop facilities available. Time: 2 hours. Admission fees are $2 per student; no charge for teachers; $1 for all other accompanying adults.
Museum Tour Only
A tour of the Niagara County Historical Society museum complex. Time: 1.5 hours. Lunch and Gift Shop available. Admission fees are $1 per student; no charge for teachers; $1 for all other accompanying adults.
Erie Canal Discovery Center Only
A tour of the Erie Canal Discovery Center. Gift Shop will be available. Call regarding lunch arrangements. Time: 45 minutes to one hour. Admission fees are $3 per student and for all adults.

A Commemoration of 1910 Old Home Week and a Celebration of 2010 Old Home Week
Wednesday, July 7th
10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
1820s
Learn about food and clothing at the time of the opening of the Erie Canal. Pound corn, carry a yoke, card wool, churn butter, put a bucket together, make a toy, play games, toss water balloons, learn about turnpikes and toll gates, find out who the presidents were, hear what kind of music people were listening to and dance the Virginia Reel.

10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
1910s
Learn about Lockport Old Home Week in 1910 and watch a movie from Old Home Week in 1925. Play games of the era, find out about clothing and get a straw hat (girls) or straw boater (boys) to decorate. Make pictures and decorations to use on the History Center float for the Old Home Week Kiddie Parade on July 24th.
Wednesday, July21st
10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
1860s
Find out what life was like during the Civil War years. Sample soldier’s food and learn what people were wearing. Stencil a keepsake box, hear music of the Civil War and try a few steps of a popular dance. Hear about the presidents in the 1860s and see a Civil War re-enactor demonstrate equipment from the war.
Don’t forget the Old Home Week Kiddie Parade on Saturday, July 24th at 11:00 a.m.

Wednesday, August 4th
10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
1930s
Learn how to make an apple pie without apples. Listen to stories from a woman who was a child during the Great Depression. Listen to a Lone Ranger radio show. Work on puzzles. Tour a kitchen from that era and see what has changed and what has not. Find out about the two presidents in the 1930s and how they handled the economic crisis. Make a craft from the 1930s.
Wednesday, August 11th
10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
1950s
Learn all about the fabulous fifties! Watch an old Lone Ranger TV show on a black and white TV. Rock to the music of Elvis and do the “Twist.” Find out about the “car culture” of the 1950s and what people were wearing and eating. Play games that were popular then and find out what “I Like Ike” meant. See what kind of toys kids played with and why you had to hide under your desk at school.
Wednesday, August 18th – Special Field Trip Day!
Extended Day – 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
19th Century vs. 20th Century
Start out in the 19th century at the Amherst Museum. Tour the buildings and do hands-on activities. Then travel into the 20th century and learn about aviation on a tour of the Buffalo-Niagara International Airport. Then travel to surprise destination to finish off your journey.
